Clinical Studies

Dr. Longo and his team recruited 101 overweight or obese participants and randomly split them into two groups. The first group followed the FMD for seven days, while the second group continued their usual diet.

At the end of the study, researchers found that those in the FMD group had lost an average of 3.6 pounds, whereas those in the control group only lost an average of 1.3 pounds. What's more, the FMD group also had lower levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides, as well as a reduced waist-to-hip ratio – all markers of improved heart health.

Additionally, participants in the FMD group saw a decrease in markers associated with cancer development, as well as blood sugar and C-reactive protein levels.

“The decrease in blood sugar and C-reactive protein levels may be associated with the improved insulin sensitivity and anti-inflammatory effects induced by FMDs,” the study authors said.
